Several years ago (2002, maybe?) I was trying to track down more of Mellor's work and I heard the same thing about him going into acting. I can't remember who I heard it from.
In any case, I love those heavy lines and squishy shapes. Delightful.
Christ almighty! Steve Mellor was a big influence on me. One of the best things in the late Crazy Magazines. If it wasn't for him there would have been no Tad Martin (the comic book not the guy on AMC).

I've always loved Mellor's drawing style. Enough to dig up my old Crazy mags out of the parents attic to get his name 25 years later.
